History takes place on Berlin's streets - changing street names reflect social change and changing interpretations of the culture of remembrance in public spaces. With a joint exhibition project, the twelve Berlin districts and the Aktive Museum e.V. are taking a look at the history of street names in Berlin. In this way, the sometimes heated debates about street names are objectified and contextualized. The volume accompanying the inaugural exhibition sheds light on the redesign of public space under National Socialism, the significance of street names as carriers of identity and the inadequate representation of women in Berlin's urban space to this day.
